LATEST SPY CONFUSION
JOSEPH MCCAFFREY: "It all started with a cottage for
sale, but then there were the secret papers and then the
counter agents and then the jewel theft.
"Well, for the latest spy confusion, here's Bob Gneiser."
GNEISER: "District police are reported trying to solve a
$19,000 jewelry theft while hampered by all the super secrecy
of the CIA. This latest controversy involving the Central
Intelligence Agency concerns a police report from CIA employee
Hans Tofte. The jewelry was missing from his Georgetown home
late last month shortly after two other CIA agents visited the
place.
"According to Washington Correspondent Clark MOLLENOFF(?),
CIA Agent Kenneth Slocum was taken through Tofte's home which
was up for sale. During his inspection, he accidentally
spotted some secret material lying out in the open.
"Tofte said Slocum returned the following day with another
agent while he was out and confiscated that material. The
next day, said Tofte, he noticed, that all that Jewelry. was
,
missing."
