Met with Mr. Ray Dotson, Administrative25X1 Assistant to Representative William C. Wampler (R. , Va. ), and gave him copies of correspondence betweeni D/BNDD, and Representative 25X1 Charles S. Gubser R C I lif. ); and Senator Clifford P. Hansen (R. , Wyo. ) and of the University of Wyoming, concerning allegations 25X1 published in Rampart's magazine concerning CIA and dope traffic. Mr. Dotson thought this material would be to the 25X1 constituent request F77 I Benefits Subcommittee, House Post Office and Civil Service Committee, who told me that the meeting of the full Committee has been cancelled for this week. This leaves only one more possible meeting, 29 June, the day before recess for the Democratic Convention, for Chairman Hanley to attempt to take the bill for protection of constitutional rights for Federal employees (H. R. 11150) from the table for vote by the Committee. 2. Delivered to Mr. Ralph Preston, House Appropriatioz?>'X1 Committee staff, for Chairman Mahon a letter from the Director concerning a withdrawal from the reserves and briefed him orally on the purpose of the withdrawal. Mr. Preston had no questions about the withdrawal. He did inquire, however, about our progress on the spread sheet of tactical intelligence costs. I told him that it is in preparation. He noted that the time press occasioned by the original date for markup of the Military Appropriations bill is now off but that he would appreciate it whenever it is completed. 4. Accompanied the Director and Messrs. Steininger, ADDIS&T, Bruce Clarke, D/OSR, and Chamberlain, D/OSI, who appeared before the Joint Committee .___._..~ on Atomic Energy.
