I Met with Bill Woodruff, on the staff of Senate Appropriations Committee, and picked up from him a copy of a letter from I Ito Senator McClellan in which he encloses a copy of a lette~5X1 which he wrote to Mr. Helms on the same date. The thrust of his letter to the Director is that he lost his position with Pratt & Whitney because of his cooperation with the Agency and in addition he states that he has been persecuted by military intelligence services because of his contacts with the Agency. He also asked for assurances from the Director that he and his wife will not be intimidated and threatened when they travel to Vienna in connection with a book he is writing.. also mentions that he has just complete d 25X1 a 700-page book entitle 25X1 letter has been forwarded to Chief, 25 1 1 7F 09 I brought Woodruff up-to-date on a number of current intelligence items. Woodruff advised that although there has been no formal announcement as yet we can work on the basis that Senator McClellan will be Chairman of both the Defense and Intelligence Operations Subcommittees. 16. Provided Jim Gehri 25X1 g, of the Senate Space Committee, more detail on the failure of the latest Soviet Salyut/Soyuz mission.
