Approved For Release 20010 RW4-003908000200040007-5 30 August 1971 M fORANDUM FOR: Office of 0/DDS SUBJECT : Information Inquiries to the Records Branch, SSS 1. This is in response to your question to last week about the "Freedom of Information" queries we receive. I have reviewed our files concerning requests about OSS records and find that we received 8 inquiries so far in 1971, 6 during 1970, and 10 during 1969. One came from DIA, one from the University of Michigan, one from the JFK Library and one from CIA/Office of Finance. The twenty others were from the Office of the Adjutant General in the Department of the Army. 2. The one about material in the JFK Library was referred to the CIA Declassification Officer, while all the others on OSS correspondence in t e rnmy+ as were re- ferred to as Director of SSU. They coordi- nated with the Office of Security and CI Staff or other components as necessary. 3. Of the 24 inquiries, 17 were approved for release to researchers as requested while in seven instances 5SU ob- jected to any declassification of the material. In no instance vas the "Freedom of Information Act" mentioned by any of the inquirers.
