The prison manufactured shelving supplied by the Using
Agency for installation on the moveable platforms is
inadequate for ..this application. On some units the mis-
alignmentis such that it is necessary to re-drill-the
vertical members in-order to insert bolts; other Units
have considerable variance in the length of these members.
.Given these circumstances it is impossible to install a
group (5) of the shelving sections on the moveable plat-
forms that does' not rack excessively.
Given these structural inaccuracies and variations and the
resulting "working" of the. structure as it starts and stops
it is impossible to maintain the rigidity required to avoid
.the dropping out of the safety cords.
The approved -mechanical and electrical equipment is inade-
quate for this application as-presently specified.
One has to realize this general. concept of moveable. aelving
is excellent but it is believed this use, wherein shelving
.,of doubtful applicability to moving platforms is specified,
is unique and has considerably different problems than other
installations presently in operation or the prototype assem-
bled for your observation at the manufacturer's plant.

It is suggested that your office authorize an engineering
study of the problems and make recommendations for necessary
changes.
'ti'le, are convinced on the basis ? of our own observation and
consultation with a respected and experienced structural
engineer that the presently specified construction pro-
cedure is structurally defective.
