PURPLE PAPER EATER: Today's proliferation of...s.R.er -secret
documents has given rise to the problem of how to get rid orgriliff
6per-secret waste paper. In the Los Angeles area the problem is
solved by a unique 40-ton vehicle owned by a firm called Document ?
Disintegration Inc. The mobile paper eater drives directly to the
plant or office door, where out-of-date but still top-secret riles are
fed into it by employes who, of course, have top security clearance.
The mobile machine, which grinds the paper to a fine, dry pulp, can
chew 750 pounds of paper in eight minutes; DDI also has a stationary
plant in Los Angeles that can handle 10,000 pounds an hour--for les
sensitive materials which can be removed from the company pi'
ises before they're destroyed.
