will be purchased by the
Times Mirror Company.. Mr.
Abrams will remain as chair-
m.an and chief executive of-
ficer, with F. H. Landshoff as
executive vice president and di-
rector of European operations
and Milton S. Fox as vice pres-
ident and editor-in-chief.
In making ;the announce-
ment yesterday, Norman Chan-
dler, chairman and chief execu-
tive officer of the Times Mir-
ror Company said that the com-
pany also had acquired a mi-
nority interest in Godfrey Phil-
lips, Ltd., and in New Eng-
lish Library Holding, Ltd.,
;which is a majority-owned sub-
sidiary of the New American
Library, Inc.
, New American, known for
Its Signet and Mentor paper-
back books, is the largest op-
erating unit within the book
publishing unit of the Times
Mirror Company, publisher of
The Los Angeles Times.
