* 2. 100 Universities Program: During the recent headquarters meeting of
the Domestic Contacts chiefs there were some comments concerning the 100 Uni-
versities Program. The chiefs believe that the Program is a useful vehicle to
bring to the attention of the appropriate university officials a picture of the Agency.
There were several comments, however, that some of the chiefs were not consulted
by the personnel officers as to useful contacts at the universities who should be
brought into the Program briefing. Other chiefs advised that they were consulted
and did participate with the personnel officers. Apparently it is not a standard
procedure that the chiefs are consulted for assistance and advice. This should be
done as they have numerous contacts at the universities, many of whom could be
useful to the 100 Universities Program. There was also some mention of the
selection of speakers who visit the universities. When the planning for the Spring
Program is initiated, we should arrange to consult with each Deputy Director to
assure that we have the best advice as to the most likely and most suitable speakers
from his area to participate in the Program.
In regard to the 100 Universities Program, comments were made that
"repeats" at the universities might have doubtful value and a third visit might be
dangerous unless the substance is new and improved.
