DIARY NOTES
A-DD/S
1. At the Morning Meeting, Col. White said that according to the Director, this
is likely to be a year of investigations, and he wanted us to be alert to surfacing any
projects or activities which could not bear close scrutiny. In fact, he wants a report
by Friday on those items that might be viewed as insupportable by an investigating
team. I have assigned the action to who will handle this discreetly with
Office Heads. Our immediate objective is to list subjects with only a brief explanation
of what we are doing and why we are doing it.
2. came in and had no complaints.
He receives full support gets good cooperation, and has a
delightful, although sleepy, country.
3. MMM would like very much to meet with Mr. Bannerman and
myself for luncheon agreed to mention this to Mr. Bannerman when
he returns and to let ow.
4. Mr. Mc Cone is arriving in Washington on Wednesday and requires ""vehicular
support" until he departs on Thursday. We will send with one of the vehicles
and have ake care of the Executive Director-Comptroller .
5. Col. White called alerting me to the fact DD/S&T has exercised about having
to report on travel arranged for and vouchered by the OSA travel unit - He
had no sooner hung up than Bud Wheelon called saying that he was willing to go along
but he didn't want to do anything that anybody else didn't have to do. We drafted a
memorandum to the DD/S&T pointing out that everyone else is reviewed by the
Central Travel Branch and the arrangements are made by the Central Processing
Branch which assures uniformity and both of these branches have been instructed
to report to the DD/S on unusual authorizations or claims and observable trends in
irregularities .
