I asked whether the Fine Arts Commission had given advice on the conference room in the Magazine Building, the redecoration of the Director"s suite in East Building, and several other ro'ects currently under considera- tion. arranged to spend most of today and 25X1A tomorrow working on these matters. She will submit a report in the near future . 2. On Saturday morning, 13 November, the Director asked me about the article in that morning's Washington Post about Fairfax County tax officials ascertaining that IBM had not paid tax. on computers rented by the Agency. The article inferred that the Agency had been penetrated to ascertain this information. I assured the Director and Dick Helms that this was not the case and that the matter had been discussed directly between the. tax authorities and IBM . I asked or a report on this story from the Office of Logistics. I also asked Vern to inquire whether we rent other types of ma- chines that might be subject to the same kind of tax. 3. On Saturday afternoon, 13 November, we received an expedite re- quest from Mr. Califano at the White House far a report by Monday morning, 15 November, on the amount of copper or its substitutes the Agency would use in Calendar Year 1966. T called George Meloon, and after some discussion and inquiries on his part, we estimated fifty tons. A letter reflecting this estimate was sent to the White House. I called George today and asked him to make a further analysis of our contracts to gauge our copper and aluminum needs more accurately. (Mr. Califano had previously requested Qur needs for aluminum during the coming year.) 25X1A Approved For Release 2002/01/07 :CIA-RDP72-003418000100050061-1 25X1A gpproved For Release 2002/01/07 :CIA-RDP72-003418000100050061-1 Approved For Release 2002/01/07 :CIA-RDP72-003418000100050061-1
