11. (Internal Use Only - LLM) Returned the earlier call of Jay
Sourwine, Chief Counsel, Senate Internal Security Subcommittee, and
told him that we had no information . n o the United States
or the February Chicago speech of on whom we had
previously given Sourwine background information on 3 March.
12. (Secret - JGO) Delivered to June Nigh, Senior Staff Assistant,
House Foreign Affairs Committee, the transcript of the Director's testi-
mony of 24 March. After review by Representative Lee Hamilton (D., Ind.)
the transcript was returned to the Agency for safekeeping.
13. (Secret - JGO) Met briefly with Representative F. Edward
Hdbert (D., La.) and brought him up to date on the change in termination
plans for project 25X1A
14. (Confidential - JGO) I received a call from Lee Williams,
Administrative Assistant to Senator J. W. Fulbright (D., Ark.), who
requested that I come by during the day tomorrow and take a look at a
constituent letter.

11. (Secret - JGO) Met with Mr. Ralph Preston, House
Appropriations Committee staff, and delivered to him a Reserve
withdrawal letter for Chairman Mahon. As a matter of information,
Mr. Preston advised that the House will be in session on Monday.
I briefed Mr. Preston on several items of current intelligence
interest. (See Memorandum for the Record.)
12. (Secret - JGO) Met with Mr. Frank Slatinshek, Deputy
Chief Counsel, House Armed Services Committee, and brought him
up to date on the Director's appearance before the House For eign. Affairs-
Committee. Mr. Slatinshek had no comment.
I briefed Mr. Slatinshek on several items of current intelligence
interest. (See Memorandum for the Record.)
13. (Secret - JGO) Met with Representative John Rhodes (R., Ariz.)
concerning his trip to Vietnam over the Easter holidays. At his request,
I also talked to Colonel Wells, Office of Army Budget, who will be
escorting Representative Rhodes. (See Memorandum for the Record.)
14. (Internal Use Only - CD) Received a call from Mr. Burton Sanborn,
in the office of Represental1Xd Foreman (R., N. Mex.), who requested an 25X1A
employment interview for . After checking with Mr.
Office of Personnel, I advised Mr. Sanborn that an appointment
has been scheduled for Thursday, 26 March at 10:00.
15.. (Unclassified - JMM) Representative Bob Wilson (R., Calif. )
called to ask whether it would be possible to bring members of the SOS and
CM (unofficial Republican congressional organizations) out for a breakfast
briefing with the Director possibly on 8 April. He recalled that this had been
done several times in the past and had been very much appreciated. I told
him I would check with the Director and let him know the results.

5. (Secret - JGO) At his request I met with Albert Westphal,
Staff Consultant, House Foreign Affairs Committee, who requested such

His information is that this individual appears to have
wide connections in Laos.
Mr. Westphal took this occasion to comment on the "professionalism"
of the Director's appearance before the Committee yesterday and the
favorable comments of members relating thereto.
6. (Unclassified - JGO) Delivered to Joseph Crowley, Assistant
to Representative Howard Robison (R., N.Y.), various unclassified pam-
phlets on the CIA for use in responding to Mr. of
Hamilton, New York, who had requested information on personnel and
organization of the Agency.
7. (Unclassified - JGO) Delivered to Mrs. Imogene Holmes,
Assistant to Representative Carl Albert (D., Okla.), a copy of the
unclassified Agency information pamphlet and the booklet "Presidents
of the United States on Intelligence, " for use in responding to a constituent
request from one of Comache, Oklahoma. Mrs. Holmes
was most appreciative.
8. (Secret - JGO) In response to his telephone call, met with
Mr. John Harper, Assistant to Representative L. H. Fountain (D., N. C.),
concerning the request of a constituent friend for information about CIA
hiring of former Special Forces personnel in Laos. In discussion
Mr. Harper advised that he had no idea where the friend has received this
information. I told him there is no such recruiting program. It was agreed
that Mr. Harper will advise the individual to submit an employment appli-
cation through Representative Fountain's office if he is interested in employ-
ment with the Agency. No further action is indicated at this time.
9. (Internal Use Only - RJK) Delivered to the offices of Senators
Stuart Symington, Warren Magnuson and George McGovern, items
in which their names were mentioned.
10. (Unclassified - SML) Mr. Howard Paster, Press Assistant
to Representative Lester L. Wolff (D., N. Y.) called and requested a China
map folio. I told Mr. Paster I would forward his request to Mr. Miller.

1. (Secret - GLC) Ed Bauser, Staff Director of the Joint
Committee on Atomic Energy, called and said that the materials we
had sent him did not include the report he had in mind when he first
contacted us. He went on to say that this was a report of an interview 25X1A
on the subject of the research which was dated 8 January
1970. It became clear what Bauser had in mind was an =report. 25X1A
of OSI, is getting a copy of this report for us.
2. (Unclassified - LLM) In response to her earlier inquiry
and based on the advice of the Offices of Personnel and Security, I
told Mrs. Pam Cragum, in the office of Representative Allard
Lowenstein (D., N. Y.), that we have no record of an association between
and the Agency. (See Journal ite ~23 March.)

4. (Secret - JGO) Met with Mr. Boyd Crawford, Staff Admini-
strator, House Committee on Foreign Affairs, who told me that he has
received many compliments on the Director's presentation as a very
informative and interesting briefing. The Chairman, in particular, was
pleased with Mr. Helm's presentation and the reception given him by
the Committee.
Mr. Crawford passed to me that Representative Lee Hamilton
(D., Ind.) has called and requested the transcript to take home with him
over the weekend. In keeping with my understanding with Mr. Crawford,
he advised the Representative that the transcript will be made available
in the Committee room at such time as will suit his (Representative
Hamilton's) convenience. The Representative will call Mr. Crawford
when he has time to come by the Committee room to review the transcript.
