The following information regarding the Members of Congress for Peace Through Law (MCPL) was obtained today through a blind telephone call to their Washington office. a. The organization has been in existence and has met informally since 1959 under the name "Members of Congress for World Peace for the Rule of Law. " In October 1966 it assumed its present name and a small staff was hired. b. The present membership of the group stands at 98. It is organized into the following nine committees: Military Spending Arms Control and Disarmament Southeast Asia East-West Trade United Nations International Law U.S. -China Relations Middle East Development c. Two years ago a 16-man steering committee voted not to make the names of its members public. This continues to be the policy. The foregoing was obtained from one Mr. "Sandy" Persons who said he has been on the staff since 1966. Before that time he had been associated with the World Federalist organization as a lobbyist. Former Senator Joseph Clark (D., Pa.), founder of MCPL, is now president of the World Federalist and is a personal friend of Mr. Persons. Another member of the present staff, Joan McKinney, was also on the World Federalist staff.
