CONFIDEN 11 A L UNITED STATES ARMS CONTROL AND DISARMAMENT AGENCY Approved For Release 2001/08/09 : CIA-RDP71T00730R000300040035-8 Senior me igence Officer, Arms Control and Disarmament Central Intelligence Agency Washington, D.C. 20505 FROM: Mr. Richard N. Brill ,ry~ Deputy Assistant Director, SC Economics Bureau U. S. Arms Control and Disarmament Agency SUBJECT: Study of the East German Financial System REFERENCE: CIA. Control No. 4290 ERG'-4 This is to acknowledge receipt today of two copies of your report on The East German Financial System. So far we have had a chance to give it onirusal but our impression is that it is an informative and well-organized report. We are grateful for the Agency's assistance in pulling this material together, as it was generally agreed when the descriptive studies were launched that an East German report could not be done outside, from wholly unclassified sources. As soon as the Columbia University reports are com- pleted for the Polish, Hungarian, and Czech financial systems, we would appreciate an opportunity to discuss this East European research with your specialists, to review accomplishments to date and to consider what more needs to be done as background for verification procedures. We anticipate completion of this phase of the Columbia project by the end of 1966.
