1. This memorand request for au~thorization_
for the expenditure of o pursue the Concept Evalua-
tion Phase of an Advance ero ynamic Reconnaissance System.
This is a continuation of the FY-69 effort requested by
Ref exence (A) and approved by Reference (B) .
2. The results of the FY-69 effort as presented at the
Reference (C) briefing concluded that there are two poten-
tially viable flight regimes for overflight of the Soviet
Union in the 1975-1980 time eriod. These two re Imes arF:
3. Consistent with the two viable regimes and requiz~ed
maneuverability, the study evolved numexaus vehicle prelimin-
ary design options. Both manned and unmanned concepts were
considered.
4. As indicated in the Reference (C) briefing, the
FY-69 study represented the initial effort only and consider-
able meaningful investigations remain to be done. Although
it is not intended that the requested for FY-70 25X1
will be sufficient to conduct all of t e pro3ected follow--on
studies, some representative examples, not in order of pr.or-
ity, are presented in Attachment 1.
5. It is requested that funds in the amount of 25X1
be allocated to CIA, for use iri FY-70, for the continua. icon
of the Concept Evaluation Phase of an Advanced Aerodynamic
Reconnaissance System. ~ 25X1
