SUBJECT: Authorized Contractor Name List for CIS
1. Attached is a current list of all contractors presently
listed in the Contract Information System (CIS). The spelling is
consistent with the limited number of spaces available in machine
storage for each name. As you well know, Company names change
frequently due to mergers and other circumstances, and there is no
official single source available at any given moment for up-to-date
listings of these names.
2. The "ground rules" for the input of contractor names into
the CIS are generally:
a. Spelling and abbreviations must be consistent from
all input sources,
b. minor changes are ignored to preserve historical
file tracing capability, and
c. unless unusual circumstances dictate exceptions,
the name of the parent concern is always preferable to the
listing of subsidiaries, divisions, or other components of a
corporation. (It is easier to determine a subsidiary,
given the parent name in a listing, than vice versa.)
3. With the above limitations in mind, please review the attached
list to determine (1) whether there are omissions (according to your
