House, concerning Senator McCarthy's efforts to have the Agency
investigated within the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Mr. Manatcs
did not seem disturbed about this indicating his view that the established
leadership would probably stall any serious moves. He saw no reason fo-
the Agency to attempt any action in this leaving it for the Congress to work
out. In the event the Agency were to be called upon by the Committee for
responses to an investigation this then would be a matter which would have
to be carefully considered by the Administration.
