They were briefed in groat c!etail 25X1 on the Agency budget including expenditures made from funds made 2.vailable from other departments. They were most appreciative of the briefi:g and seemed to understand the general picture. 3. (Internal Use Only - JSW) Met with Senator Paul J. Fannin and discussed with him briefly and in general terms the Agency's interest in H. R. 10721, the amendments to the Federal Employees' Compensation Act. He seemed favorably disposed to this legislation and was apprc =iative of our interest. He initiated the conversation on the current resolution to _ modify the CIA Subcommittee structure. F 4. I I Spoke with Gladys Johnson, Senate Committee on Post Office and Civil Service, on the Federal Employees pay bill and she advised that they plan to report it out of the Committ _e today and confirmed that the effective date of the early retirement provisions would not be changed and would be as of the date of enactrrent. 8 ? Met with the staff personnel of Senate Preparedness including Jim Kendall and Glenn Smith. They outlined the planned program of hearings and studies and furnished me with a --opy of the outline. They stated it was their purpose to do an in-depth study of world-wide commitments of the U.S. The outline has a section devote to assessment of the threat which they would want the Agency to address itself to in a series of hearings.
