Approved For Release 2004/12/15 : CIA-RDP71B00364R000500220031-5 t6 T JOURNAL OFFICE OF LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL Friday - 29 July 1966 1. Picked up two copies of the transcript of the hearings on the CIA bill before Subcommittee No. 1 of the House Armed Services Committee. 2. I I Discussed the case of 25X1A with James ulmin the office of Representative Theodore Kupferman. I noted that OSS records failed to confirm thati had ever been employed by OSS and suggested that this be the answer which Kupferman's office write to their constituent. Later, in response to a specific request, I prepared a letter to Representative Kupferman verifying my conversation. 25X1A 3. In response to a request from Representative Martha Griffiths, I discussed with her the question of senior women officers in the Agency. Mrs. Griffiths was most pleased that we had bothered to do this and was very impressed by the number of senior Women officers in the Agency which she said was far more than any other Government agency of which she is aware. I asked Mrs. Griffiths if she might like to come to the Agency for lunch with some of our senior women and she said she would be delighted. I will arrange this for the third or fourth week of August. 4. I iBoyd Crawford, House Foreign Affairs Committee staff, called indicating Representative O'Hara would like the Agency to furnish an informal briefing on Africa. I indicated that I was sure we could work out some informal arrangement and Mr. Crawford will be in touch later. 5. I I Talked with Senator Leverett Saltonstall who had asked me to drop by. He wanted a brief report on the background of the U-2 which was lost yesterday which I furnished him. He also had been anxious to hear how the hearing went this morning and I gave him a few points although in the meantime he had talked with Senator McCarthy and others and indicated my report simply confirmed what he had learned.
