(Internal Use Only - JSW) Talked with Mr. Bill Woodruff, Senate Appropriations Committee staff, concerning our TATINTL After going into this in detail, he agreed that the idea of expanding the rider on the Appropriations bill in the Senate Committee was feasible. He suggested an appropriate letter to Senator Russell on this after gaining the assurance that this was agreeable with Mr. Mahon. This matter was then thoroughly discussed with Mr. Bill Darden, Senate Armed Services Committee staff, who agreed with this general approach. 2. (Internal Use Only - JSW) Talked to Mr. Darden about tentative dates for Admiral Taylor's confirmation and he thought that this could well be this coming Thursday, 6 October, although, of course, he could not make it firm at this time. 3. (Internal Use Only - LLM) Miss Marjorie Hein in the office of Congressman Donald Clancy (R., Ohio) called advising that Monsignor Dominic Ferrara has an appointment with Ambassador Trimble, Office of African Affairs, State Department, at 3:00 p.m. on 3 October 1966. After checking with Mr. John McConnell, DCS, I made arran ements with Miss Hein for Monsignor Ferrara to call Mr on 3 October as to when it would be convenient for the Monsignor to meet with Mr Miss Hein appeared to be very appreciative of our assistance in t is matter. (See Journal of 27 September 1966) 4. (Unclassified - LLM) Spoke with Peter Masley, Administra- tive Assistant to-Congressman Hervey G. Machen (D., Maryland) con- cerning the Congressman's letter of 26 September 1966 to the Director STATINTL on whether the Agency still anticipated disposing of the -property in July of 1967. Mr. Masley indicated that their only interest was to determine if there had been any change from our October 1965 position. I told him that while I knew of no change in STATINTL our position, this was being checked out; and he said that it would be fine with them if they could hear from us on this next week.
