Jackson (who is on the west coast this week), and I met with Miss Fosdick, Staff Director, Subcommittee on Nationa Security and International Operations, and delivered a paper on "The Effect of the Cuban Missile Crisis on Soviet Strategic Force Planning" per the Senator's earlier request. Miss Fosdick said she was anxious for the paper on the Politboro we are doing for them by not later than the morning of Thursday, 3 July. Miss Fosdick also requested for this week a very brief paper on the number of Soviet "intellectuals" now in prison or in labor camps. In addition, Senator Jackson's office would like any material we have on the recent world Communist conference in Moscow (they would apparently like raw material from FBIS plus the classified Agency analysis thereof). We briefed Miss Fosdick on recent developments in Soviet ICBM deployment and the Sino-Soviet military situation. 2. (Secret -JMM) and I met with Ed Braswell, Senate Armed Services Committee staff, to whom we delivered for Senator Stennis a copy of the Director's prepared statement before the .,Qeigs RP~aic,n Committee _on.23,e. We briefed Mr. Braswell on recent developments in Soviet ICBM deployment and the Sino-Soviet military situation. 3. (Unclassified - GLC) Left with Mr. Lloyd Salvetti, in the office of Representative Hastings Keith, a map of the Agency for the Congressman's use in visiting the Headquarters building tomorrow. 4. (Internal Use Only - LLM) Called Mr. Lloyd Salvetti, Administrative Assistant to Representative Hastings Keith (R. , Mass. ), to confirm the arrange- ments for Mr. Keith's visit to Headquarters tomorrow at 8:30 a. m. Later in the evening Mr. Salvetti informed the Agency's Watch Officer that they would have to cancel. (Confidential - JGO) Met with Mr. Carl Marc and reviewed with Lim LhAirman ' letter-of-231 June concerning Agency support of th I advised Mr. Marcy that the Agency does not comment on speculation by individuals or the press concerning Agency activities and that we prefer not to respond to the Chairman with a letter in writing that might be forwarded to a constituent or individual raising a question of the Chair- man. Mr. Marcy noted in passing that response in writing would very often be forwarded to the questioner in response to the basic inquiry. I advised Mr. Marcy for the Chairman's information solely that the Agency is not supporting the University in any fashion. After review of the file, which had been assigned to Mr. Pat Holt by the Chairman, Mr. Marcy wrote a STATOTHR note to Chairman Fulbright and drafted a letter of response for the Chairman which stated in effect that the Chairman does not believe the Agency is providing any support for the I 25X1A thanked Mr. Marcy for his assistance in this matter.
