East Study
1. one of CIA's commitments to your study
is a projection of economic trends in the area
over the next ten years. It was promised on a
tentative basis for 15 June, with an absolute
deadline of 30 June.
2. Due to the Arab-Israeli war and its
aftermath, levies on the Office of Research and
Reporter for economic reporting have been heavy.
In addition, the special NSC committee studying
the Arab-Israeli problem has demanded on the
highest priority a number of special economic
studies.
3, These demands have taken the entire time
of the relatively small group of ORR economists
dealing with this area, and we have had no choice
but to assign a lower priority to other projects.
4. I regret, therefore, that ORR will not
be able to furnish its annex until 14 July.
