Tuesday - 24 September 1968
Met with William Darden, on the staff of
the Senate Armed Services Committee, and discussed with him our
proposed response to Senator Cooper's request for intelligence infor-
mation on the Soviet and ChiCom missile programs. Darden took
the matter up immediately with Senator Russell who expressed concern
over our sending such a response. Following a personal meeting with
Senator Russell the Director called Senator Cooper who indicated that
he had reservations about making such a request and indicated that
a response was not necessary. (See Memorandum for the Record for
details.) Bill Darden and Bill Woodruff, Senate Appropriations
Committee staff, were both advised of the disposition of this matter
and Darden said he would in turn inform Senator Russell.
