Approved For Release 2000/04/13 : CIA-RDP HIM 3 STATINTL To stun it up, who killed Trujillo is not clear, but with his death, '1'rujilloism does not end, nor does the. struggle of the Dominican people. "Senator Saatliers and the agents of the Central Intelligence Agency and Mr. Kennedy must. know that, iit all of this, yet to be heard is the voice of the martyred a.nd,.hereic people, who cannot be deceived this time. They have the syugwt'1hy and,, the moral support of all the peoples of Latin America." For Latin Ame4Ua, Mr. Smathers, the time has come for the end of both the Trujillos and .u1illoism and, above all, the timd has. come for national independence-tai' the Latin American nations and the end forever for what creates tyrannies and tyrants in Latin America--Yankee imperialism. CIA Possibly Involved Havana CMQ Television Nit;work in Spanish 0040 GMT 2 June 1961--F ("The March of History" by Luis Gomez Wanguemert) (Suu=ary) The important factors behind the assassination of Dominican dictator Trujillo are not yet known. It is not known for what reason General Diaz and his friends ambushed Trujillo. It is not known whether the plot was motivated by a domestic maneuver to succeed him in the dictatorship, or whether the assassination was the result of an intrnational intrigue to free the Caribbean from this sinister fig-are with'a view to engineering a democratic farce in the Dominican Republic which would allow its status within the hemisphere community to be restored. Of course, there is no doubt that the United States is interested in the return of the Dominican Republic to the OAS as a member in good standing in order to guarantee its sugar supply through the control of Dominican production and by preventing in that wgcy the rise of prices in the protected market. There is no doubt that the return of the Dominica,, Republic to the OAS is very beneficial for the North American investors who have factories, and plants there. On the other hand, Trujillo had lost much of his usefulness to the United States. Tru,;illo had become, in fact, an unwelcome associate capable of producing disagreeable and embarrassing situations as in the case of professor Gaiindez. Although there are no proofs and(concrete charges cannot be made, it is not possible to dismiss the likelihood that the assassination of Trujillo has been planned, organized, and executed from a distance by the same hands that had engineered and directed an even worse crime, the armed aggression against Cuba. There are already indiahtions in the United States that the State Department and influential members of the capitol are attempting to take adlantage of the fall of the old dictator in order to create in the Dominican Republic a situation favorable to North American interests.
