HAVANA PRENSA LATINA IN SPANISH TO LATIN AMERICA 1750 3 JAN 62 E
(SUMMARY) HAVANA--AN EDITORIAL, TITLED "TARDY CONFESSIONS,"
APPEARS TO JAY IN THE N%,.W,5 ?Au 9fi,LL. it .: Wow OF THIS CAPITAL. THE
EDITORIAL NOTES THE CONFESSION MANE BY THE SO-CALLED PRESIDENT
OF GUATEMALA IN WHICH HE A_MITS THE DIRECT PARTICIPATION OF HIS
GOVERNMENT IN THE TRAINING OF MERCENARIES WHO WERE PAID BY NORTH
AMERICAN IMPERIALISM ANT: JEFEATEP BY THE CUBAN PEOPLE AT PLAYA
GIRON.
EL MUNDO, REFERRING ALSO TO THE STATEMENTS OF THI FG R
T-RAL I. I.:Ei, GFNCE AGENCY, -CIA -ALLEN W. DULLES,
1,IRECTOR OF TK,,,CF,
SAID: ' TAR.iILY, THEY HAVE. DECIDED
PARTICIPATION IN THE UNSUCCESSFUL ATTEMPT OF INVASION OF OUR
COUNTRY, WHICH INVASION WAS DESTROYED AT PLAYA GIRON,"
THL.._1?A...E.B?5 SAYS: "WHILE DULLES HAS LIMITED HIMSELF TO CON-
FESSING THAT THE INVAS10 WAS A PROJECT OF THE 'ORICANT2A 'ION HE
DIRECTED AS WELL AS A FAILURE, SENOR YDIGORAS HAS USED A BOASTFUL
TONE. HE PRESENTED HIS GOVERNMENT AS JUST A LITTLE LESS THAN THE
PROMOTER OF THE INVASION, AND, STRANGE BUT TRUE., AFFIRMED CURIOUSLY
ENOUGH THAT WHAT HAPPENED AT PLAYA GIRON WAS ''A TACTICAL DEFEAT,
BUT BY MAKING AN INVENTORY OF THE RESULTS OBTAINED, IT CAN BE
SEEN THAT IT WAS TRUE VICTORY, LIKE THE NAVAL BATTLE OF JUTLANI)
BETWEEN THE GERMANS AND BRITISH IN THE FIRST WORLD WAR.*""
REFERRING FURTHER TO THE STATEMENTS MADE BY THE GUATEMALAN
PRESIDENT TO THE EFFECT THAT, AFTER THE INVASION, THE WAR MONGERING
ACTIVITIES BY CASTRO OUTSIDE CUBA HAD CEASED., THE PAPER SAYS:
"SENIOR YDIGORAS DISTORTS THE TRUTH, AS IS HIS WANT. AL OF LATIN
AMERICA KNOWS THAT THERE NEVER EXISTED THE WARMONGERING ACTIVITIES
TO WHICH HE REFERS. THEY ONLY EXISTED IN HIS PARK AN:) TWISTED
MIND."
THE PAPER ACCUSES THE PRESIDENT OF GUATEMALA OF RESORTING TO
ILLEGAL METHODS OF REPRESSION EACH TIME THE GUATEMALAN PEOPLE,
OR SOME OPPOSING POLITICAL LEADER, GIVE EVIDENCE. OF BEING IN
DISAGREEMENT WITH HIS "CORRUPT GOVERNMENT."
THE PAPER REFERRED TO YDIGORAS' COMPLAINT THAI, WHILE HIS
GOVERNMENT MAINTAINED SILENCE, THE NORTH AMERICANS, GOING INTO
HYSTERICS AND FORGETTING EVEN THE SIMPLEST NORMS OF RESERVE,
WENT SO FAR AS TO MENTION THE NAME OF GUATEMALA AS THE TRAINING
POINT AND ORIGIN OF THE INVASION. "SUCH EFFRONTERY HAD NEVER BEEN
SEEN BEFORE," YDIGORAS MOURNED.
THE PAPER CONCLUDES BY SAYING THAT THE COMPLAINT BY Y )IGORAS
AGAINST HIS ASSOCIATES IN THE STEALTHY ATTACK AGAINST CUBA IS SURPRISING
AND INCONGRUOUS. THEPAPER SAYS THAT SENOR Y".)IGORAS APPEARS TO BE
IGNORANT OF THE FACT THAT NO CREDENCE CAN BE GIVEN TO THE OLD SPANISH
AXIOM WHICH SPEAKS OF HONOR AMONG SCOUN')RELS.
