Talks,at Church
The United S a es is carrying
out many of the principles of
the Monroe. Doctrine on a world-
wide basis, Allen W. Dulles, di-
rector of the Central Intelli-
gepee Agency, declared yester-
day.
Mr. Dulles spoke at a service
during which documents -taken
'from the, o d cornerstone of the
Georgetown Presbyterian Church
3115 P street N.W., were trans-
ferred to a new cornerstone in
the restored building.
President Monroe, himself,
laid the original stone. Mr.
Dulles took note of this, declar-
ing that this country today has
"many elements of similarity"
with the problems faced by the
Nation in 1821 when the original
cornerstone was laid.
President Monroe, he pointed
out, was trying to protect the
new world republics against
totalitarianism just as today the
United States is attempting to
help other countries fend off
communism.
The Rev. Dr. Albert J. Mc-
Cartney, minister emeritus of the
National Presbyterian Church,
prayed for President Eisenhower,
who sent a letter to the church's
congregation.
Mr. Eisenhower pointed out
that the congregation was
founded during the American
Revolution. "The memb'rs," it
read, "have demonstrated their
belief in tolerance, their cop,--
cern for education and theme
tliance on devine law. Thig'
building and the historical heri-
tase it symbolizes surely will be
continuing inspiration." ki,
