The director of the Unit-
ed States Central Intelli-
gence Agency, Mr. Allen
Dulles, arrived in Canberra
yesterday for a series of
top level security discus-
sions in Australia.
Mr. Dulles, brother of the
United States Secretary of
State, Mr. John Dulles, and
briefing officer to the Na-
tional Security Council in
Washington, came to Aus-
tralia at the invitation of
the commonwealth Govern-
ment, extended, to him re-
cently by the Minister for
External Affairs, Mr.
Casey.
The object of his tour is
to check the security posi-
tion of the United States
and her allies in some areas'
vulnerable to Communist
infiltration, particularly in
the Seato areas.
He reached Canberra yes-
terday by special plane
from Darwin after a visit'
to Djakarta. He lunched
with the Prime Minister,
Mr. Menzies, and after
talks with him flew to
Melbourne for talks with
Australian Intelligence of-
cers at the week-end.
Mr. Dulles will leave on
Monday to continue his
visit to South-East Asian
countries, visiting the
Philippines, Hong Kong,
.Tokyo and then returning
to Washington.

and resistance to Commu-
nist expansion. He had a
feeling that In the battle of
Ideas they were in front.
