OFFICE OF LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL
Friday - 13 January 1967
1. (Unclassified - JSW) Delivered to Mr. William Darden,
Senate Armed Services Committee staff, the letter from the Director
to Chairman Russell concerning our legislative package. He will take
this up with the Chairman.
2. (Internal Use Only - JSW) Talked with Mr. Woodruff, Senate
Appropriations Committee staff, who indicated he would like a copy of
the material which we sent to Senator Mansfield as a result of Monday's
meeting. He also inquired about the source of conventional anti-aircraft
ammunition. I indicated that the heavy calibre was supplied in large part
by the Soviets whereas the smaller calibre was supplied in large part by
the Communist Chinese.
3. (Internal Use Only - JSW) I OCI, and John S. STAT
Warner discussed with Russ Blandford, House Armed Services Committee
staff, the situation in the Bahamas. He was shown a prepared analysis
d
questions. Mr. Blandford stated that Chairman Rivers had expresse
real concern that there may be starting a long range plan for a Communist
takeover and urged the Agency to examine this most carefully. We were
furnished the name of an individual residing there, an American, who may
be of some assistance. I uis to look into this whole matter most
carefully and provide a further report. Subsequently, Mr. Blandford was
advised that the Agency, recognizing the importance of this matter, had
dispatched a team there today.
4. (Unclassified - GLC) Met with Mr. Scott Cohen and Mr. Walter
Lloyd, in the office of Senator Charles Percy, to discuss details of Senator
Percy's visit to the Agency for breakfast next Wednesday. They mentioned
the Senator's interest in the balance of payments, common market, his
proposal for a Southeast Asian conference and his interest in science and
technology as a result of his assignment to the Senate Space Committee.
