JOURNAL
OFFICE OF LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL
Wednesday - 18 May 1966
1. Met with Senator Leverett Saltonstall
and his son, William Saltonstall, and discussed at some length both
the situation and various ramifications of
the McCarthy resolution to establish a committee on intelligence operations.
See Memo for the Record for details.
2. Received a call from the office of
Senator Frank Church asking how a letter should be addressed to the
Agency. Recalling the incident when Senator Church's office previously
tried to send a letter to 2430 E Street by Capitol Page, I made arrangements
for us to pick up the letter from the Senator's office tomorrow morning.
3. Learned from J. Garner Cline, House
Subcommittee on Immigration, that no report has yet been received on
the Rodino bill (H. R. 14545). I shall call Mr. Rommel at BOB to see if
anything can be done to expedite the report. Cline also said that the
as come up in committee, but he put it over since
nothing has been heard from Senator Eastland. I shall again check with
Fred Mesmer of the Senate Subcommittee on Immigration staff to see if he
can ask Eastland to call Feighan on the bill.
4. Checked with Ben Zelenko of the House
Judiciary Subcommittee 3 Staff on the status of the bill on the use of the
Agency name or initials (H. R. 14538). It is not yet scheduled for a hearing,
but Zelenko expects it may come up within the next two weeks.
5. Left word for Pat Meo,in the office of
Representative Ogden Reid (R. -N. Y.), that the letter from Lt. Drubno,
USAF pilot captured by the North Vietnamese, has been useful to the Air Force
and that I will provide her with more specifics when they are available.
