JOURNAL
OFFICE OF LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL
Thursday - 3 March 1966
Delivered the edited text of the testimony
Jbefore the CIA Subcommittee of House Armed Services to
Mr. Blandford, Chief Counsel of the Subcommittee.
25X1 3. Discussed the case with 25X1
James Cline, Counsel .of the House Immigration Subcommittee. Mr.. Helms
had received a call from Senator. McMarthy who indicated that Representative
Emanuel Celler wanted assuranceQwould have a job. Mr. Cline 25X1
indicated that he himself was the party at interest and that the real question
was whether there is Agency interest. I assured Cline that there is and also
25X10would have a job. Cline said he would pass this information on to
Mr. Geller.
25X1 4. Discussed the Rodino bill on RFE and Radio
Liberty with Mr. Cline. It appears that the bill is still awaiting a report
from the Justice Department which has had it for over eight months. Cline
suggested that we get in touch with Justice and see if we can pry the bill loose.
Mr. Houston was informed and will be in touch with Justice.
25X1
25X1
5. Discussed the case with Mr. Cline,
specifically to obtain his views as to whether Representative Feighan would be
willing to send a letter to Immigration approving a into the
United States pending in their behalf. Cline indicated that
there is'not a chance of obtaining such a letter and that the fastest procedure
would be to get the bill through the Senate and over to the House. I shall see
Mr. Mesmer, of the Senate Immigration Subcommittee staff, to explore the
possibility of quick passage in the Senate.
