Received a call from Mrs. Kelly, in the office of Representative Frank Chelf (D., Ky.), to inform me that Representative Chelf had introduced the bill on behalf of_ I I thanked Mrs. Kelly for calling and asked that our thanks be conveyed to the Congressman. 25X1 2. Received a call from Miss Jean Main, in the office of Senator Robert Kennedy, requesting the estimated number of persons in Russia convicted of political crimes for the last five years. I advised that I would be back in touch with her later in the week. Met with Congressman John Byrnes, (R., Wis.) and his Administrative Assistant, Mr. William Gage, concerning the case of The Congressman would appreciate such advice as we may be able to provide, on either an informal or formal basis about this case. His office has received the usual allegations that there is reason to believe that the Agency is involved in the flight although he, himself, appears to have a completely open mind on the matter. I thanked him for his courtesy in calling us and told him I would be back in touch with him or Mr. Gage. 4. Met with Mr. J.R. Blandford, Chief Counsel, House Armed Services Committee and reviewed last Friday's conversations with him and later that day with Mr. Miles Romney, Assistant General Counsel, House Government Operations Committee, concerning the F_ I I advised that, in accordance with his suggestion, Mr. Romney was advised that information concerning this case was in the hands of Armed Services Committee and that Mr. Blandford would be pleased to respond to any Committee questions including Mr.:Romney's request for advice concerning a summary of the negotiation attempts by the defendant's counsel.
