1. Reports from each of the directorates and the Office
of National Estimates covering publication efforts have been
received and noted. These reports were in response to my memo
of 7 February in which it was pointed out that the Director had
requested an early examination of the Agencyts publication effort
as a means of perhaps cutting costs, avoiding duplication, and
synthesizing and consolidating Agency publications.
2. The preliminary reports have been forwarded to the
Inspector General who has been requested, in accordance with
I I to examine the Agency-wide pub-
lication effort under the auspices of the Agency Publications
Board.
3. The Inspector General will make arrangements as he
sees fit and will be in touch with you to develop procedures for
the review. The final report will be completed and submitted as
soon as possible.
