MEMORANDUM FOR THE RECORD
SUBJECT: North Korean Mission
After the Director's morning meeting,
informed the undersigned that the Director did not wish us to fly
the North Korean mission alerted yesterday for tonight. Apparently,
there were two reasons for the Director's decision, namely, with
the strong probability that the current China coverage stand down
will be rescinded very soon we would not have to limit ourselves
to North Korean targets but instead could obtain the Manchurian/
North Korean border coverage as well. Secondly, the Director
felt that the loss of a TACKLE U-2 at this time would be most
inopportune.
