OFFICE OF REPORTS AND ESTIE&TES
As the exclusive intelligence evaluation, analysis, and production
component of CIA, ORE is responsible for the production and
presentation of national intelligence required for the formulation
and administration of policy and operational decisions affecting
national security in carrying out this responsibility, and in
accordance with NSC and CIA directives, OREs
1. Prepares current and staff intelligence reports and
estimates on a regional, functional, and global basis,
on its own initiative, or in response to specific
requests. Such reports and estimates will present
and interpret the significance of foreign conditions
and developments which affect U. S. national security,
analyse trends, forecast and interpret probable future
developments, and their consequences.
2. Coordinates and administers an interdepartmental
program for the production, maintenance, publication
and dissemination of basic intelligence designed to
meet the common requirements of C. I. A. and the
IAC agencies.
3. Formulates the National Intelligence Objectives in
collaboration with the IAC agencies and under guidance
of the NSC Staff.
4. Evaluates available intelligence information and
intelligence; assesses its adequacy, accuracy, and
timeliness, and prepares reports of such assessments
for the guidance of collection, source expliotation
and producing agencies to assure that all fields of
intelligence bearing on the national security are

6. Advises the Director of Central Intelligence on plans,
programs, policies and procedures for the production

As the advisory body to the Assistant Directors, ORS, and the compo.
nents of his Office on plans, policies and procedures pertaining to
fulfillment of the ORE missions
1. Reviews oontinuoualy the organization and operation
of ORE to insure adequate fulfillment of its assigned
mission.
2. Prepares and recommends to the Assistant Director, ORE
on the basis of consultations with appropriate ORE
components organizational.and operational plans, programs,
policies, and procedures, as may be required to faoili-

2. Review~reporte and estimates. produced by other ORE
components and make recommendations regarding the
adequacy of treatment of those sections which have
a bearing on their specialized fields of inquiry.
3. Prepare timely Current and Staff intelligence reports
and estimates on specific subjeots(in?a given functional
field which are inter-regional on technically specialized
in character.
4. Participate in the formulation of the National Intelligence
Objectives.
5. Evaluate available intelligence information and intelli-
gence; assess its adequacy, accuracy, and timeliness,
and prepare reports of such assessments for the guidance
of collection, source exploitation and producing agencies
to insure that all signifioan fields of intelligence
bearing on the national security are adequately covered.
Formulate requirements for the collection and exploitation
of intelligence data in order to insure a steady flow of
material responsive to'production requirementso

REGIONAL BRANCH
As intelligence evaluation, analysis, and production components of ORE,
the Regional Branches have primary interest in, and responsibility for
the production and presentation of national intelligence reports and
estimates each within the limits of its assigned georaphical area,
exsept as otherwise specifically provided for. In oarryin7 out this
responsibility, each Regional Branchs
1. Prepares timely Current and Staff intelligrenoe reports
and estimates and is responsible for the facts and
interpretations contained therein.
2. Review reports and estimates produced by other ORE
components and make recommendations regarding the
adequacy of treatment of those sections which have a
bearing, on their designated geographical area of
responsibility.
3. Accomplishes substantive teview of basic inlellimenoe
produced by other agencies, and advises the Basic In-
telligence Group on its adeugaoy for inclusion in the
National Intelligence Surveyss
4. Participates in the formulation of the National
Intelligence Objectives,
5. Evaluates available intelligence information and
intelligence; 4ssesses its adequacy, accuracy, and
timeliness, and prepares reports of such assessments
for the guidance of collection, source exploitation
and producing; agencies to assure that all significant
fields of intelligence bearing on the national security
are adequately covered.

As an interdepartmental map intelligence facility, 'and in collaboration
with appropriate components of CIA, the i?iap Branch, in carrying out its
responsibilities?
I. Provides assistance to other components of CIA and to
IAC agencies in the interpretation of geographio information
and map intelligence; and has responsib ;ty for preparing,
in coordination with other components of ORE reports which
evaluate the accuracy and suitability and adequacy of
available maps and charts for specific intelligence purposes,
present and interpret territorial claims-and boundary disputes,
and furnish other cartographic and textual presentations of
intelligence data..
2. Compiles and constructs for IAC agencies specialized maps to
accompany intelligence reports and to :meet other specific
intelligence requirements.
3. Under the over-all coordination of the Basic Intelligence
Group, assists in the basic intelligence program by pre-
paring standard map bases and final map presentations, by
coordinating map requirements and specifications with con-
tributing agencies, and by coordinating and contributing
to t he map chart, appraisal chapter of National Intelligence
Surveys.
4. Coordinates the formulation of interdepartmental require-
mer_tsfbr the procurement of foreign maps, charts, and
related data; and provides the Department of State with
recommendations to effect -iap procurement in foreign areas
through Foreign Service Facilities.
5. Maintains the CIA map collection, which includes an a:::ttensive
coverage of intelligence maps and related geographic informa-
tion on foreign areas; and provides interdepartmental services
in connection therewith, including assistance in the selection
of pertinent materials and the distribution of these materials
as loans or gifts to CIA and other appropriate agencies.

Joint Map and Photo Committee, J.C.S., and R.D.B. geographical
committees

SCIENTIFIC BRANCH
As the primary intelligence evaluation, analysis and production component
of ORE with exclusive responsibility for the production and presentation
of national scientific intelligences
1. Prepares scientific intelligence reports and estimates
designed to present and interpret the status, progress
and significance of foreign scientific research and
developments which affect the capabilities and potentials
of all foreign nations.
Accomplishes substative review of basic scientific intelli-
gence produced by other agencies and advises the Basic
Intelligence Group on its adequacy for inclusion in the
National Intelligence Surveys.
3, Participates in the formulation of the National Scientific
Intelligence Objectives.
4. Evaluates available scientific intelligence information and
intelligence; assesses its adequacy, accuracy, and timelinessfl
and prepares reports of such assessments for the guidance of
colle ction# source exploitation and producing agencies to
assure that all significant fields of scientific intelligence
bearing on the National security are adequately covered.
5o Formulates requirements for the collection and exploitation
of scientific intelligence data in order to insure an
adequate flow of material in fulfillment of production require-
mentso
6. In collaboration with appropriate CIA components and the IAC
agencies, advises and aids in the development, coordination and
execution of the overall plans and policies for interagency
scientific intelligence activities (including centralized
scientific intelligence services) and coordinated interagency
scientific intelligence production.
7o Advises the Assistant Director, ORE, and the Director of
Central Intelligence on scientific intelligence, and, as
authorized, acts as the coordinator of the scientific
intelligence activities of CIA,
8. Provides scientific intelligence support to RDB and AEC.
