1. _ JSW) Called Bob Smart, House
Armed Services Committee, and advised that the President has
nominated Major General Marshall Sylvester Carter to be Deputy
Director of Central Intelligence.
2. JS 1) Called William Darden, Senate
Armed Services Committee, and advised him that the President
has nominated Major General Marshall Sylvester Carter to be
Deputy Director of Central Intelligence. Apparently in the meantime
the Director had advised Senator Russell of this.
3. I I - GLC) Talked with Captain Enfelt, Depart-
ment of the Army, concerning the case of Enfelt will
advise William Shattuck, on the House Judiciary Committee staff, that
the Army has no information o and suggest that the Com-
mittee contact this Agency.

the Joint Committee on Atomic Energy, an item prepared by OSI on the
replacement of V. S. Yemelyanov by A. M. Petrosyants. The Committee
had already received a more detailed statement on this from the Atomic
Energy Commission.
6. ( GLC) Picked up from Mary Rita Guilfoyle, of the
Senate Space Committee staff, items 18 and 24 of the Committee's material
which is being held by the Agency. I also picked up several classified items
consisting of Committee work papers which Miss Guilfoyle gave us for
destruction.

case. This will be done in the firm's office tomorrow.

House Committee on Government Operations, concerning Project
