OPERATIONS REQUIREMENTS SECTION:
a. Assisted the Development Branch in a flight test of the
Westmont Beacon. Results of this test were submitted in a
memorandum dated 4 Yarch. In summary, this beacon was
considered reliable at distances up to 18 miles when flying 500
feet above the highest terrain in the area. sham flying 500 feet
above terrain contours, this beacon was reliable at distance* up
to 8 nniles. It is pointed out that these tests were conducted in
the mountains near Cumberland. Maryland, therefore. the
reliable ranges are considered true reliability operating under
adverse terrain features.
