The following reuresents a summary for your information
of URPIC reporting to date on Indonesia. The four reports
received thus far, altnougn essentially negative, are use-
ful for establishing bases of comparisons as well as helping
assess current military deveiopments in Indonesia.
1. Aerial reconnaissance of the Celebes and
Moluccas areas revealed no unusual
airfield or ship?ing activity. Several cargo
vessels and numerous small craft were observed
at flakassar, while other major ports had simi-
larly routine traffic. The report while a 4in-;
little to our working knowledge does

2. A aerial survey of the Sumatran 50X1
area disclosed no unusual activity, either on air-
fields or in harbors. The airfield at Medan had
one C-47 aircraft, while Pakanbaru had none. The
Tandjunqpinang airfield had two transports, possi-
bly C-47 type. Shipping activity was largely con-
fined to tankers and miscellaneous cargo and coastal
vessels. There was a probable gunboat off Padang.
The lack of unusual shipping in the port areas of
,Ntern entral rna.tra would suggest that, as of
there 'as no i!aminent threat of an amphib- 50X1
ious assault there.
A survey of Borneo on re-
vealed little air activity. Most of the air-
fields had no aircraft. The field at Balikpapan
had two aircraft, one fighter type and one r-25
type; these were probably stationed there in
support of government ground activity in the
Donggala area or north-central Celebes. shipping
activity in Borneo ports appeared normal.
4. report on Java with a. few notations
on itoraeo appears to reflect normal
air and shippin activities at p.I.jor caters. A
total of 11 LI-2's were observec on military air-
fields at Banduu. and Djakarta. (There was exten-
sive shippiu,Y. activity in Djakarta's port (Tand-
j!mg Driok), with cargo vessels and 2 taners
2urabaja harbor also had numerous commercial
vessqs. There were no siLificant observations
2orneo.
