Coarsey, AFCIN CIA Revision of Middle East Basic RfsLii-rients 25X1A 1, The Chairman emphasised the importance of: a. The basic list being in good order since only then can the system for reporting in code be effective. b. Levying only the essential requirements because of the cumulative impact at various points in the system, to wit: Operations* DPS/DCI planning, operations themselves, preliminary analysis* and 'reporting through already congested communications channels to a number of places. * Present part time. The Chairman requested that each agency carefull review the basic list and transmit directly to HTAUTOMAT9 attention proposed revisions of the list with correct coordinates and with spec]xtcauon by any where appropriate of airfield, complex. port, etc. 3. In telephoning requirements to the Chairrnanos office, the agencies may specify targets for guidance of the P1s which will be listed in the target list for the day under that title, which may be ignored by OperationsiDPS/DCI planning but which will be transmitted by HTAUTOMA.T to Such coordinates taken from the basic list will be presumed to be covered by priority targets though not exactly coincident with the coordinates of such targets. Tactical Targets Peripheral to the Middle East Area 4. The Army and Navy will submit tactical targets in the Balkans, Transcaucasus, and the Turkmen area as they desire. These will be issued by the office of the Chairman as basic tactical target lists against the eventuality that they may be needed for tactical reconnaissance by CHALICE The Air Force at this time elects not to submit such targets but will rely upon the basic target list on satellites should an emergency arise. Additions to the USSR and China Target Listings 5. The members were requested to inform the office of the Chairman their view with regard to the requests of the Navy, as set forth in Ser:NT.000169 dated 4 June 1958 (TCS-3296.58) and Ser:NT. 000203 dated ZS June 1958 (TCS-.3362.58) and 8eraNT.000204 dated 25 June 1958 (TCS.3365.58). 6.
