MEMORANDUM FOR: THE CHAIRMAN, MUNITIONS BOAR
SUBJECT: Intelligence Support of the Munitions Board
1. I am in receipt of your letter of 23 October 1950 which requests
this Agency to arrange for certain intelligence support required by the
Munitions Board. It is the responsibility of CIA to serve you in this
respect.
2. In response to a directive of the National Security Council, we
are, as you know, engaged in a thorough study of the requirements of the
Government for the production of economic intelligence, together with
an assessment of the existing machinery for meeting these requirements.
After the completion of this study, we shall prepare a comprehensive plan
for a coordinated interagency effort in the production of economic intelli-
gence, based on a definite allocation of responsibilities among the
agencies concerned. With the implementation of the plan your requirements
will be automatically fulfilled, but this complete solution must be
undertaken as a long-term project, hence it cannot become fully operative
for a considerable time.
3. In the interim, there are a number of ways through which CIA
can arrange to give you at least a partial service. With this thought in
mind, I am issuing appropriate instructions within the Agency. It would
facilitate this action if you would provide us with an advance copy of
the list of key facilities to be published on or about 30 December 1950.
Furthermore, we should appreciate your informing us of the next following
date when you will be required to publish such a list.
