MEMORANDUM FOR THE INTELLIGENCE ADVISORY COMMITTEE
SUBJECT: The Situation in Indonesia
1. The Director of Central Intelligence has instructed that the
attached summary of the current situation in Indonesia be circulated
to IAC members as a basis for discussion at the meeting on 5 March
1957.
2. The developments discussed in the attached paper have re-
cently been brought to the attention of the National Security Council in
the Director's regular intelligence briefing on February 28, 1957.
Unless the discussion in the IAC brings out significant differences of
opinion or significant points not covered in this summary, the Director
believes that it will be sufficient for him to keep the National Security
Council apprised. of further developments and that a Special National
Intelligence Estimate is not necessary at this time.
