Office Memorandum UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT
TO : Chief, Language and Area School
DATE: 5 March 1959
FROM : Deputy Chief, Plans, Research and Administration
SUBJECT: Weekly Activities Report
A. SIGNIFICANT ITEMS
None to report.
B. OTHER ACTIVITIES
1. The Area and Plans and Research Components of LAS completed
their move into the 1800 Wing of Quarters Eye on Monday, thus
consolidating the School for the first time since expanded activities
were undertaken in 1955. The Language Test Development and Testing
Branches will remain in "I" Building, using the office and lecture
room off 2132 "I" Building. Telephone numbers for A/T Faculty and
PRA remain the same. Test Development and Testing have been assigned
extention 2780. Much credit is due the Services and Support Staff
of the Office of Training and Logistics for their efficient and
effective support and accomplishment of the move.
2. A case came up of a man who had taken the FBI course in
Cambodian and had taken the FBI proficiency test at its conclusion.
Since the FBI is our only source for a native speaker for oral
testing, and since the FBI test in reading Cambodian is better than
ours for the iven proficiency level, it was decided, with
Lff approval, to accept the results of the PSI test in-
stead of giving the man another test.
3. Forty two people reported for Proficiency tests last week
in German, French, Portuguese, Swedish and Russian.
4. Sixteen orals were given last week in Swedish, Spanish and
French.
5. During the past week the following books were received by
the LAS/TR Library in 1823 Qtrs. Eye.
Buss, Claude A. Southeast Asia and the world today.
Lederer, William, and Burdick The Ugly American.
