A. SIGNIFICANT ITEMS
None to report.
B. OTHER ACTIVITIES
1. On 24 conferred with Prof. John Carroll of Harvard
on the progress of the testing program. Topics discussed included
analysis of the test results, the revision of the grading scale,
possible changes in Part I. and experimental use of a modified test
procedure for people with relatively low proficiency.
2. On 25 June met with (Manage-
ment Staff) to discuss proposed changes in the form filled out by
people taking language tests.
3. Seventy-two people reported for written proficiency tests last
week in Bulgarian, Chinese, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Italian,
Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Sebrian and Spanish.
4. Forty-seven Certifications, for Language Award certificates were
sent to the Registrar last week.
5. As of June 30th, 3612 test have been given in the language develop-
ment program. Roughly half of these have been comprehensive, that is both
written and oral.
