4. With the cooperation of the Security Office. a physical
survey was made of the hearing room and a technical sweep was also
made. The Security Office furnished two men at all ernes to stud
at the doors and to assist in clearing the room after the hearings.
S. It was early determined that there would only be three (3)
copies ot the transcript and that it would be held by the Subcommittee
staff and be available to Senators only by dropping by and reading the
transcript where it was held. The reporting firm threugh the Sub-
committee staff delivered to the Agency the various carbon. dictebelts
and waste from the closed haulage for eventual destruction.
6. At a point where the DCX had just concluded the opening part
of hie statement, the point was raised of whether that testimony could
be unclassified. The Director agreed that probably it could. ite went
on to explain the peculiar problem of the Agency in connection with
unclassified testimony. The Subcommittee Chairman asked the Agency
to attempt to clear as much of the record for publishing as passible.
The Director *greed to do the best we could on this.
7. One copy of the transcript was made available to the Agency
on 2 December 19117 for correction and return by 6 December. Cyrus
Vance specifically stated that it was the desire of the Committee that
the transcript not be made available outside of the Agency. The DCI
and DDCI were informed of this request. In the meantime. Mr. Robert
Dechert, General Counsel. Department of Defense, called requesting
the transcript and he was also advised of the Subcommittee's desires.
S. In my opinion, the Senators/ were courteous and attentive and
most interested in the facts presented to them. I do not believe the
record will show any overt antagonism toward the Agency.
