Approved For Release 2000/08/25: CIA-RDP58-00597A000200040010-7 A group of us met this week with Allen Dulles, Director of the Central Intelligence .Agency,, and a number of his top aides for our regular Wednesday morning breakfast. After breakfasts, r. Dd les took to his conference room and described to us the organization and functions of the Central Intelligence +iic + &.-at; indicated the nature !tf its relationship to the intelligence services of the Army, Navy,, Air au of Investigation., the Atomic Energy Commission of state. a great deal of the work of the Central Intelligence Agency is top secret. Hower, one of its most vital functions coordination of intelligence work,, particularly to produce ratio rational estimates are the agreed view of all of the inteil.i- geas agencies on"what may happen in critical areas of the world. Mr . Dulles meets with the heads of the other intelligence agencies once a wok ?r more often if the situation requires--to decide on the final vwsion of the estimate which their staffs working together have drafted. as of the national estimate is to inform the policy makers of ranch of the possible developuenta in such spots as Iz o.Chiy*, Korea* etc. Upon agreement by the heads of the intelligence agsncies estimates are sent to the interested departments and with the National. Security Council-composed of the t, Secretaries of State and Defenses etc. It pbasised that the whole structure of the Central Intelligence Agency and the workings of the intelligence agencies were read to insure that an information received by the United "sates eerneent was properly assessed and evaluated--and put in the right hands- to insure that every precaution moo taken to prevent another Pearl Harbor.
