Dear Larry: Not having heard from you for sometime, I have no way of knowing whether you are still in the market for a likely addition to your staff, but in case you are, I have a suggest- ion. STATOTHR You may or may not remember who, prior to World War II, was a practicing attorney in Phila- delphia; who then served in the Navy with me and who later served on my staff as an Assistant Security Officer in North Africa and Italy during 1944-45. Among the places where he was stationed were OSS Headquarters in Siena, Florence and Bologna. Houston, Esquire: -2- 25X1A drawn to a close and he has not made up his mind what next to do. He has no desire to go back into the general practice of law and he would much prefer to have a job in which he could use his undeniable genius for languages which includes the most excellent Italian, Spanish, German and French. Herbert has in the past done a good deal of fine legal research and has really a vast knowledge of the history, art and music of a great many countries. This recommendation is completely my own idea and I can assure you I am motivated solely by the desire on the one hand to see Herbert placed in a job where he can be both useful and happy and on the other hand, to have you obtain an assistant, who I am sure will be useful to you. This being the case, I am taking the liberty of ask- ing you to grant him an interview and have suggested to him that sometime within the next couple of weeks he come to Wash- ington for that purpose. Even if nothing is available at the present time I hope that you will do me the favor of talking to him with the thought in mind that some future opportunity might present itself.
