This ()Moe c?msidered that with Mr. Williamson
going to Tangier to assist Col. Eddy in coordinating our
intelligence efforts in North Afehca, it would be of
great value to the armed services to have Mr. Williamson
become familiar with thl major lacunae in the information
possessed by G..2 and ONI on that area. It was felt that
there were undoubtedly a number of items of major imoor-
'came $till missing and that without in any way increasing
the tempo, gr. Williamson, making use of existing fa(!ilitles,
might obtain some of the answers within a short time.
Major Goodwin, Acting Chief of the Western
European Section of G-2, was told of
assignment to Tanvii.r and it was explained to him how
Mr. Williamson would have access to all our solArces and
facilities in, North Africa and would be in a position to
rocus their efforts. Major Goodwin indicatA that there
were a number of itemb of information of primary impoittance
whifth he thought Mr. Willtamson ought to endeavor to :0)0:tin.
However, a few days before Mr. Williamson's departure,
Major Goodwin stated to Mr. Williamson and myself that bo

cause of instructions from his superior ?Meer he was un-
able to furnish us any ouestions.
Mr. Hugh Wilson thon had a conversation with
Major Gea. Strong who agroed that at was desirable that
Mr. Wilson be furnished a limited number of quostions of
priority importance and made a note to remind himself to
issuo the necessary directkve. The writer checked with
Major Goodwin daily thereAfter up to t'ro timf, of Mr. Minn:II-
son's departure to see if Major Goodwin recoived any chinge
in the original instructicn. For some unknown reillson the
prohibition was never lifted.

London. However, the writer does not know to what extvnt
