Mr. Howland has suggested that a iettet along the
linos of the attached be sent to Mr. Hlower* Tao elli
recall that Fieldsteel Is T-5 assigned rot duty En
the Message Center; and an anonrmous letter to Wils Yea
which was forwarded to us by Mr. hoover. accused
Fieldsteel of Communistic tendencies. This ecousetiou
is now being investigated b Mr. Howland.
As Mr. Howland had originally drawn the letter. tt
oontained a statement that rialdsteol wale an employee ar
OSS. It seemed to the Secretariat to be desirable not
to make suoh an exprsss statement and accordingly the
letter was altered in thin respect.
The information concerning Fieldsteelt* trips to
Mexico comes from his pera=a1 history statement.
