My dear General Donovan:
The Regular Veterans Associat1cn nf the United States has
kept pace with the great work whicl the OSS has done in the
field of special intelligence in Earype, and more particularly
in Italy. We veterans, like yourself, appreciate the value of
special intelligence, both in war 'ind in peace.
As the result of your activities and courageous missions,
many soldiers of our Army have had their lives saved, and the
war has been shortened in Italy. We are all in accord that
one of tl-e finest and most efficiont jobs of irtelligence was
performed by your men against tremendous odds. In this con-
nection, we especially recognize :he unselfish devotion to
duty and ti-e tireless efforts of your trusted aide, the chief
of the Italian section.
In recognition of the distirguiehed work of Mr. Earl
Brennan, the National Council of Administration of the Regular
Vete?ans AOseciation has un 4unsly voted to present to him
our organization's Distinguished Service Certificate and Medal,
given to Americans who have done an outstanding service to our
country. We should be honored t3 have you, his chief, present
when this presentatibn is made; and we should also like your
permission to make the presentation either here in Washington
or in New York, some time within the next thirty days, when-
ever you feel that it would be suitable.
We are very happy indeed, sir, to have the opportunity of
honoring the service of such a an as Yr. Brennan. We would
greatly appreciate your informing us of the date that would be
most suitable to you.
