NFAC/OPA, briefed Representative JjjL_Xpug_an El Salvador
today in the apIcalLearing room. In addition to Congressmen Ashbrook,
Rose and Mazzoli who stopped by for brief periods, seven staff members
attended the briefing. At the request of Mr. Young, of
DIA joined at the witness table. Mr. Young's primary
interest is-Cuban support to the Salvadorian lefist organizations.
In a previous briefing, he had understood a DIA witness to say that
been a recent increase in such support. Mr. Young and
were in complete agreement on both the level and extent of
u an involvement. The briefing, which ran for almost two hours,
covered all aspects of the current situation in El Salvador. Mr. Young,
as you may recall, lead the unsuccessful fight against the Nicaraguan
Aid Bill and was trying to formulate his position on similiar aid to
El Sal h was to come up for a vote in-the House this after-
noon.
