1. Enclosed is a copy of the U.K. Order in Council
1954 No. 1372 on the British Guiana Alteration of
Boundaries of October 19, 1954, extending British
Cuiana's boundaries to "include the area of the
continental shelf being the seabed and its subsoil
which lies beneath the high seas contiguous to the
territorial waters of British Guiana."
2. There is no administration of the continental
shelf as such, although the Commissioner of Lands and
Hines of the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources
is responsible for mineral exploration. Exploration
concessions have been awarded Shell and Continental
Oil offshore along most of the country. Test drilling
has been done some 50 miles offshore in about 200 feet
of water in concession areas.

in the following issues of the Official Gazette of
Guyana, which are on file in. the Department.

1. This Order may be cited as the B.G.
(Alternation of Boundaries) Order in Council
1954.
2. The boundaries of the Colony of British
Guiana are hereby extended to include the
area of the continental shelf being the seabed
and its subsoil which lies beneath the high seas
contiguous to the territorial waters of British
Guiana.
3. Nothing in the Order shall be deemed to
affect the character as high seas of any waters
above the said area of the continental shelf.
