In ? 4114,Z= Declassified and Approved For Release 2012/12/12 : CIA-RDP08001297R000300250010-3 COPY ISSUED BY THE INTELLIGENCE DIVISION OFFICE OF CHIEF OF NAVAL OPERATIONS ' NAVY DEPARTMENT CONFIDENTIAL INTELLIGENCE REPORT Serial: R-92-45 Guide No. 803-200 From: U. S. Naval Attache at Ciudad Trujillo Date 18 June 1945 _Reference: (a) NACT R-31-45: (b) NACT R-91-45 Source: Personal Photography Evaluation: A-2 Subject: Dominican Republic Army Organization and Disposition In connection with References (a) and (b), it will be re- called that DUVERGE is strategically located for Military pur- poses along the so-called "Southern Invasion Route" from Port- au-Prince7 Haiti to Barahona D. R. (Via Ganthier, Jimani Duverge, and Cabral). The town and its accompanying military barracks were greatly enlarged and partially rebuilt during the period 1 January 1944-1 April 1945 similar to Jimani as part of a long range program by the Dominican Government to extend its control over territories adjacent to the Haitian- Dominican Border. At present the Army Detachment as DUVERGE numbers less than twenty (20) men; however, the newly-con- structed barracks will accommodate twice that number. The DUVERGE Detachment is drawn from the complement of the 13th Infantry Company (Capt Leogivildo PRATT) with Company Head- quarters at Barahone, all under the jurisdiction of the Commander of the Southwestern Military District, Lt.-Colonel Manuel de Juses CHECO, E. N., with G.H.Q. also at Barahona. It has been reported but not yet confirmed that additional troops have been sent from Ciudad Trijillo to augment the DUVERGE Garrison since the first week of April 1945. /LAI44 Aut.;41 g-91 -214, / 4?,-0{ ?IAA- ,444,,,A...4 .
